At least two people have died at the Rift Valley General Hospital as the health workers strike in Nakuru County enters its third day.
This is contrary to previous claims that at least six people may have succumbed to death as a result of the strike which started on Monday.
However, Nakuru deputy Governor Joseph Ruto rebuffed the claims and stated that only two children have died but not as a result of the strike.
The health workers strike has paralysed activities at the hospital and other major hospitals in the county since Monday, with most patients resorting to seeking treatment in private hospitals in various parts of the county.
The more than 2,400 health workers downed their tools on Monday demanding their allowances and the issue of promotions addressed.
The county government’s intervention to salvage the situation has not borne fruits after talks with the health workers collapsed on Tuesday.
The matter has since been referred to the labour department.
