Two rival groups on Tuesday clashed at Kwa Mang'eli village in Mavoko over a land ownership dispute prompting intervention of national government administration officers.
Mavoko assistant county commissioner, David Tegutwa told HiviSasa that the police were alerted by one of the locals who also claimed ownership of the same land.
"People encroached on a private land of a Mavoko resident who claims he holds a valid title deed for the land under dispute, he is the one who logged complaints to police," said Tegutwa.
"As much as we cannot determine who rightfully owns the parcel of land which is being fought over, we had to intervene to prevent further conflict," Tegutwa added.
Tegutwa said administration police officers from Athi River got to the scene and stopped all activities on the land.
He said a second group in support of another individual who claims ownership of the land had allegedly hired people who were surveying, sub-dividing and putting up beacons on the same land when they arrived at the scene.
The commissioner said none of the two would commence any operations on the land until the dispute was resolved either through legal process in courts or arbitration by the Athi River deputy county commissioner's office.
Tegutwa said land ownership wrangles in Mavoko was a big challenge saying several locals kept fighting over land.
