Two armed robbers were on Wednesday arrested at Riamoni in an early morning crackdown against lawbreakers.
The crackdown was executed by members of a volunteer youth group after a series of robbery with violence incidents in which locals reportedly lost valuables gangs.
According to the youth in charge of the operation Thomas Nyakundi, they arrested two men as three of their accomplices escaped.
He said the gang had invaded a nearby shop with the shopkeeper making distress calls to locals for help after they attempted to break his door.
“They were in their routine robbery habit and made efforts to rob a shopkeeper who in return raised the alarm. My team was making its routine surveillance in the village and we apparently caught up with two. Three others escaped,” he said.
They urged Gesima police officers to beef up security in the region following increased reports of robbery incidents.
“Of course we have our youth on the ground but we need backup from the police. Some of them are in possession of deadly weapons. With the help from the police, we can combat these crimes,” said Manson Omwebu.
The two were rescued from a group of angry residents when they were unveiled to locals with Riamoni chief Francis Rasugu managing to take them to Gesima Police Station.
“It is always proper to follow the law. However, I promise that they have to cooperate with the police as we investigate a series of robbery incidents in this region,” he told this reporter on phone.
