Uasin Gishu County government has invested Sh4 million to buy dustbins in an attempt to make the county the cleanest.

Speaking in her office on Tuesday, the CeC in charge of Water, Environment and Natural Resources Ms Mary Njogu said the dustbins will be distributed in Eldoret town and other parts of the county in a move aimed at making the environment friendly, clean and safe thus attracting more investors.

“The estates in the outskirts of Eldoret town that will benefit from the exercise include, Huruma, Kidiwa, Langas, Kamukunji and Munyaka where the issue of garbage collection has been a challenge thus endangering lives of people residing there,” Ms Njogu said.

She reiterated that the organic dustbins that were bought recently will be put in strategic places thus ensuring appropriate garbage disposal in the county.

“I urge Eldoret residents to help us in making our town clean through making sure that every litter is thrown in the dustbin. Anyone dirtying the town will be treated as a threat to the process of conserving the Environment and stern actions will be taken against him/her,” she said.

She added that the process of distributing the dustbins to the central Business District of Eldoret town has kicked off. The process will be extended to the surrounding estates and thereafter to Burnt Forest, Moi’s Bridge and Ziwa in an effort to keep the towns clean and attractive.

She also pleaded with Eldoret residents to take care of the dustbins and report anyone trying to steal them.
