Farmers from Uasin Gishu have opposed a proposed bill that if passed will put a maximum amount of land one can be allowed to own.

Speaking yesterday in a meeting held in Teachers Advisory Center(TAC) in Eldoret town, the farmers said the bill sought to discriminate farmers with large tracts of land in the region known to be agriculturally rich.

" If the bill is passed it will cause mayhem in the country. We shall make sure it does not sail through to become law", Said Kipkorir Menjo, the director of Kenya Farmers Association branch director.

The farmers said they were planning to meet governors and members of the National Assembly from the region to rally support.

The Kenya Minimum and Maximum Land Holding acreage bill 2015 has been put to public scrutiny by the Constitutional Implementation Commission(CIC) which upon its passage, individuals from agricultural rich regions will  be allowed to own up to 10 to 15 hectares. Moreover, no individual will be allowed to own more than 10 hectares in agricultural rich regions. Those who support the bill said it will ensure maximum exploitation of the land resource.
