Uasin Gishu County Women Representative Eusilah Ngeny has called on the county government to rehabilitate alcohol addicts who she said are suffering.

Speaking to journalists at Eldoret Town on Sunday, the women rep said many people mostly youths within the county are alcohol addicts.

She said many addicts are suffering in silence following the ongoing fight against illegal alcohol.

“I urge the county government and other stakeholders to help rehabilitate alcohol addicts in Uasin Gishu,” she said.

The women rep noted that alcohol abuse is rampant in most parts of the county stating that even teenagers had been lured into drinking and abuse of other drugs and substances.

Ngeny praised the ongoing fight against illegal brews saying that it will save many youths and other people as the illicit brews had hindered development in the county.

“We are happy by the government's move to finally crack the whip on illicit brewers and sellers of second generation alcohol,” she said.

The women rep urged the government to make sure that all brewers are flushed out from the county.

Ngeny urged youths in Uasin Gishu to apply for development funds and venture into business activities that will help them.

She said unemployment is to blame for high rates of alcoholism among the youth.
