The management of Sungututa Primary School in Kitutu Masaba constituency has appealed to the Teachers Service Commission to deploy more teachers to the institution to help tackle the problem of under-staffing.

The institution with 400 pupils is currently operating with only six government employed teachers as the rest were transferred.

School headteacher Kennedy Agasa on Thursday said his efforts to have more teachers deployed to the school had hit a snag, with the Ministry of Education officials from Masaba failing to respond to his plea.

“It is difficult to handle the population with only six teachers excluding me. It is tough and I am worried that the government has not responded since May. We need more teachers if at all we want quality education,” he said.

According to him, the institution was unable to sustain trained teachers who were ready to render their services due to minimal resources, compelling him to depend on services of untrained teachers.

“We have no money to support trained teachers who are yet to be employed by TSC. The little we have we went for services of four untrained teachers and most of them are about to join college. Hope someone hears our cry. They transferred some of my teachers without replacement,” Agasa added.

Gesima Education Officer Robert Obiria admitted of the scarcity and promised to do a follow up with the ministry.

“I was expecting at least three teachers in the school this term but I am doing a follow up. The matter had been discussed in our education meeting,” he said.
