University of Eldoret Vice Chancellor Prof Teresia Akenga has accused some politicians of allegedly inciting students at the university into rioting.
Speaking to journalists at her office on Saturday, the VC alleged that there were politicians who were behind the unrest that occurred at the varsity last week.
“It is unfortunate that some politicians instead of helping the university grow are inciting students to violence,” she said.
She said that riots that saw the university close indefinitely were motivated by some political leaders in the county who are opposed to her stay as the head of the institution. Prof. Akenga said that they were determined to force her out and are using students to achieve their mission.
"I will not bow down to any political interference in the running of affairs of this institution," she added.
Last week students at the varsity held protests over alleged increase tuition and accommodation fees. Property of unknown value was destroyed before ant-riot police were called in to calm the situation. The university was closed immediately.
