Youths in Nakuru County have been advised to take fish farming seriously.
''Tufuge Samaki'', a local Non Governmental Organisation regional co-coordinator Paul Barasa regretted that youths in Kenya are not interested in fish farming as a business and this required attention from the line ministry.
Speaking in Eburu location in Nakuru county on Saturday during a workshop that brought farmers together, Barasa said the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Department has continued to hold seminars and workshops where they teach farmers diverse methods of farming and it was upon the beneficiaries to choose the ones that that had potential to generate more income in the long run.
Barasa said there was need for more young people to venture into fish farming, so that they could become self reliant and eradicate poverty in the area.
''If you want to eradicate poverty in your area, venture into fish farming,'' Barasa said.
He regretted that many youths like businesses that generate money faster, like boda boda business.
''Fish farming is easily sustainable and does not require a lot of man power as compared to other types of farming such as dairy farming,'' Barasa said.
