A 46-year-old village elder was has been arrested by police in Katangi area of Yatta sub-county for allegedly killing his aunt and grandmother over a land dispute.Alex Ndunda, a village elder in the Katangi area, is accused that while armed with a panga, he butchered his 65-year-old grandmother, Videa Kamanu, and his aunt Naomi Wambua, 35, leaving their dead bodies in pieces.Confirming the incident, Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang on Monday told the press that the suspect was arrested by police officers as he fled from the scene after the heinous act.“He was taking off towards the nearby Kamaindi trading centre with intention to escape but luckily the public alerted the police who swung into action and arrested him. He is being held in Yatta police station,” he said.The police officer added that the suspect was found in possession of a blood-stained panga and traces of blood on his clothes during the time of arrest.“He was in possession of the killer weapon and his clothing had blood stains and we took them as evidence. We are interrogating him further to get more information before we can prosecute him,”  Kipsang added.According to a neighbour, the suspect had a long dispute with the two family members a day before the heinous incident.He told reporters that the suspect had been seen for a couple of days quarreling with the grandmother by the neighbours over his share of land.
