Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo has defended Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru over corruption allegations leveled against her ministry.

Gwendo said Waiguru was a whistle blower who should be appreciated for stopping the loss of government money.

She said the cabinet secretary name those behind the scheme to defraud the government off millions of shillings.

She said corruption was rife in counties and that instead of targeting Waiguru, that strength should be used to fight corruption at the counties.

“We have seen projects in the counties that consume millions of shillings yet these people on the neck of Waiguru have failed to comment on,” she said.

Speaking in Kisumu East Constituency, Gwendo told the opposition to join President Uhuru Kenyatta in fighting graft instead of politicking.

She defended President Kenyatta over his admission that government does not have money to pay teachers.

The Senator told the teachers’ unions to embrace dialogue and stop street demonstrations.

“Street demonstrations will offer no solution to this impasse, the teachers’ pay rise has been with us since 1995, why can’t teachers then give Jubilee government time to sort out the issue,” she said.

She said the explanation by the President is self explanatory and teachers should listen and return to class.

Gwendo says children should not suffer on issues that do not concern them.
