Wangige Primary School pupils are the most recent victims of land grabbing of land belonging to a public institution.

The pupils staged a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday over the crime perpetrated against the school, allegedly by the Kiambu County government.

The pupils read an elaborate letter addressed to President Uhuru Kenyatta detailing their plight and their need of assistance from the highest office in the country.

The letter read:

“Your Excellency, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

We the pupils of Wangige Primary School humbly appeal to you to intervene and save part of our school land which has been grabbed by the county government of Kiambu.

Your Excellency, our very visionary forefathers sacrificed so much to purchase this land for the purposes of education. The land was then handed over to Kiambu County Council to hold it in trust on their behalf.

Your Excellency, we kindly request you sir to assist our school get title deeds.

Your Excellency, we remember you addressing a public rally on this very ground on February 20, 2011.

We love you and trust that you will not let these grabbers get away with our school land.

Your Excellency, our education is our future.

May the almighty God bless and strengthen you as you fight impunity and cancer of corruption in our beloved country.

Thank you.”

Wangige resident Stephen Mburu said it was wrong for land set apart for education to be grabbed. He said the letter written to the President communicated well the plight not only of the pupils but the residents.

“All we want is justice. The school land should be preserved from rogue leaders and greedy leadership,” said Mburu.
