A woman was on Monday morning charged before a Kisumu court for obtaining her estranged husband's land fraudulently and selling it.

Monica Chisana denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari, for the offence allegedly committed in the month of June this year.

According to the prosecution, the accused who had separated with Martin Okwiri in 2014, stole the land documents from his Kisumu house while visiting their children.

The alleged selling of the land is said to have taken place on the July 13. Chisana however told the court that the husband had earlier given her the consent of selling the land in case he failed to send her money for maintenance and upkeep.

However the court advised her to file a different lawsuit to address the matter against her husband.

She was released on a cash bail of Sh250, 000 pending the hearing of the case on January 13.
