A woman who was allegedly caught selling the banned second generation liquor has been charged with the offence before a Nakuru court.
Consolata Adhiambo was on Monday arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Victor Wakumile on accusations of selling a banned substance and also operating outside the stipulated business hours.
The court heard that the accused was caught selling the banned liquor namely "sting" on October 17, at Crators Base pub Kiamunyi.
She further faced another count of operating outside the stipulated business hours after she was found selling alcohol at 12.30pm.
The accused, however, pleaded guilty to both charges but requested the court for leniency adding that she was remorseful for her conduct and that she was the sole bread winner for her two children.
"I am very sorry for what I have done and I kindly request the court to grant me a non-custodial sentence because I am everything to my two children who are still very young," she told the court.
She added that she had since quit the job because she felt very sorry over the matter. She, was however, released on Sh20,000 cash bail or serve five months behind bars.
In the same court, a middle aged woman who was allegedly caught with 10 litres of chang'aa told the court that it was for elders who were having a festival.
Gladys Wambua stated that she had been sent by the elders to fetch the traditional liquor at the time the police officers caught up with her.
"I was sent by the wazees to get them the alcohol when the police found me. I don't engage in chang'aa business," she said.
The court released her on Sh6,000 cash bail or one month in prison.
