A 50-year-old woman on Wednesday appeared before a Kisumu court for allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing a laptop and a television set both worth Sh120,000.

Catherine Omwega, a trader at Kisumu’s Kibuye market, is facing two count charge of alleged stealing and break in.

She denied both charges before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Esther Maina for the offence allegedly committed on June 21 this year.

According to the prosecution, Omwega broke into the apartment of Stephen Kimani in Car Wash area and stole an LG flat screen TV and an Acer laptop.

The court heard that the accused used to work for the complainant as a house help but was fired for not doing her work as required by the employer.

Omwega was arrested after Kimani filed a police report upon discovering that his house had been broken into and items allegedly stolen.

The prosecution said that they used eye witness account to nab the accused. Prosecution added that the complainant's neighbours had seen her leaving the house but still thought she was working for the complainant.

The cort wa told that the stolen items were discovered at Omwega’s residence in Manyatta hidden under a bed. Omwega was released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 with a surety of similar amount pending the hearing on July 27 this year.
