Nakuru Women Representative Mary Mbugua has urged women across the country to be on the front line in fighting Female Genital Mutilation FGM and early marriages.
Addressing parents of Kiriko Primary School in Nakuru on Friday, Mbugua said child marriage is a violation of human rights that is destroying girls and women lives across the country.
"Let women take charge of their families and advise their female children against the FGM.
Let all of us be responsible and stop further incidents of girls aged as young as ten years getting married," said Mbugua.
She said it is a high time that Kenyans should shun negative traditional or religious practices that are encouraging occurrences of the vice.
Ms Mbugua said education is crucial in reducing the incidence of early and forced marriages hence parents ought to ensure their children complete education before they get married for a better future.
She challenged women to fight the notion that they are the weaker sex and work extra harder for the betterment of their families.
She said women and men should stop taking family disputes to chiefs every now and then as that has always created room for outsiders to worsen the situation.
