Women and youth from Mavoko Sub-County have been urged to form groups so as to benefit from various government initiatives.

Speaking at a women meeting in Athi River Town on Tuesday, Athi River MCA, Michael Mutua said it is easier for the residents to benefit as a group than individuals according to the government policies surrounding the supportive projects.

"I call on the Mavoko residents especially women and youth to form groups so that they benefit from the available government programs and improve their living standards," said Mutua.

Mutua argued it is more easier to successfully implement development project as a group than as an individual.

He said groups promote concerted efforts and motivation alongside sharing of skills and experiences as members join hands to execute programs and implement life changing projects.

The county legislature said most of the public funds initiated by the national government such as Women Enterprise Fund, Uwezo Fund, Youth Enterprise Development Fund among others were never sought for by the residents hence were returned to the treasury by authorities and their custodians each financial year.

"Machakos county government is ready and willing to implement youth and women projects in the next financial year in a bid to compliment the national government's efforts to economically empower them through provision of the various funds," said Mutua.

Mutua however said the county government's intervention would only make more impact to the communities within the county, if more groups were formed by youth and women to raise the numbers of beneficiaries from the region.

He said those not in groups could also join already existing and legally registered community organisations so as to be beneficiaries of the funds.
