The fate of 21 workers of Aqualine Distributors Company in Athi River hangs in the balance after a fire razed the plant on Friday.
The employees some of who are still housed at the firm’s premises told journalists on Monday that they were awaiting the management to tell them the way forward.
"We have nowhere to go. We are still waiting for the management to tell us the next step,” said John Lelei.
"We are all confused and desperate for jobs. The plant was burnt down at a time that nobody expected thereby leaving us with no alternative. We are waiting for direction from our employer,” said Lelei.
Samson Ochieng', a welder, said he would stay put at the company’s house until the management sorts him out claiming that the employer has paid him for months now.
The company's director, Hillary Kitur, said they owed all the employees some money which had accumulated over the period that the firm was operational due to fluctuating sales.
Kitur, however, said they would clear all the arrears by the end of this week. He said the firm had suspended operations adding that the fire had destroyed the entire plant.
"We are aware that we owe the workers money. We will however hasten their payment so that they can seek jobs elsewhere,” said Kitur.
