Two brothers from Chepilat Township in Nyamira County were awarded by the area MCA with Sh150,000 for their commitment in acting as role models to young generation by putting their entrepreneurial skills into practice.

The two, Peter Kerandi and Thomas Kerandi were working as casual labourers at Kipkebe Tea factory before saving and subsequently setting up a shop that is estimated to be worth Sh1 million.

On Sunday, their efforts were rewarded by Alfayo Mwongeresa who challenged young people in the community to start small scale businesses instead of waiting for formal employment.

“As youths, we are not doing that well. All we do is look for white collar jobs after finishing our studies. We have to change our mindsets and set small businesses as these two young men. They started from scratch and their efforts have been rewarded,” Mongeresa said.

The two young men attributed their success to hard work, endurance and determination and vowed to expand their business to create more employment.

“We started from scratch and managed to purchase this piece of land before setting the whole structure. The MCA has given us a challenge to expand the business and establish more branches and absorb more workers,” said Peter Kerandi.
