Residents have welcomed the opening of Gesusu Youth Empowerment Resource Centre as it seeks to support the youth in Kisii and other neighboring counties.

Speaking on Sunday at Gesusu Market, Dr Samwel Matonda of the Kisii County Micro-Finance said the youth are to acquire information at the centre aimed at equipping them for to be self-reliant.

The facility whose construction started five years ago, is fully furnished and equipped to offer complimentary education courtesy of the county government of Kisii and Gesusu MCA Sammy Keronche

Keronche thanked the county government and promised to work closely in uplifting the education standards in the county.

He said for economic growth to be realised in the community, empowering the youth through education was vital, wile inviting all youth to take advantage of the centre.

"We as Kenyans of Gesusu Ward must take our literacy with seriousness to make our community an elite one among the many of others in Africa," he said

Bernard Nyamoko, a local politician welcomed the move saying similar centres should be brought right to the villages to empower the whole community.

"Through education we can have a voice even in our government and in any group of world class leaders forums," said Nyamoko.
