Youths in Kibera have been urged to embrace the elderly in society by showing them love, respect and value.

Speaking Wednesday during the International Day of Older Persons at DC grounds in Kibera, Bi Naomi Mohammed, the old people representative in Kibera said youths have a big role to help the elderly.

“I would like to tell the youth to take good care of old people in Kibera and other regions. Old people are a blessing to this generation. Taking care of them means you are being blessed in one way or the other,” said Naomi.

She said majority think that taking care of the old means giving them monetary support but that is not the case.

She urged the youth to visit the old and help them with house chores as well as giving them company.

Naomi said youths should know that one day they will grow old and therefore they should use their energy well so that by the time they get to that state, they can relax and enjoy their lives.

“Young people, try working smart to save for your energy when you will be old. Do not stress yourselves when you are aged looking for money. You have enough time to look for money now. Look after this old people because one day you will need the same assistance,’’ she added.
