A section of youth and women from Machakos County have endorsed the Nairobi Senator, Mike Mbuvi Sonko for the county's gubernatorial seat in the 2017 polls.
Led by Mavoko Constituency youth leader, Erick Ndunda, the youth said the senator was fit for the job.
"We as youth and women from Mavoko Constituency have endorsed Sonko to rally for the gubernatorial post in Machakos County because he has youth and destitute people’s interests at heart," said Ndunda.
Addressing journalists in Mlolongo Town on Thursday, Ndunda supported the Wiper leader, Kalonzo Musyoka’s alleged call for the senator to shift base from Nairobi to Machakos and rally for the post on a Wiper ticket.
Jackline Muthoka, the region's women leader, said most of the women from the region were suffering due to abject poverty and had nobody to turn to.
"Some of the women are widows with children to take care of and pay school fees for and have no reliable sources of income,” said Muthoka.
They said Sonko was welcomed in the county given that he has roots from the region and had lots of investments and property in most parts of the county.
The youth leader claimed that certain leaders who had been elected in the 2013 general elections on Wiper party tickets had shown disrespect to Musyoka but were still enjoying the power they got through the leader and the entire party's support.
Ndunda said Sonko should heed the call so as to save the county residents from discriminative leadership which the youth claimed was being practiced by those in power.
