Youths in Gucha sub county have been advised not to be selective when seeking employment due to stiff completion for limited job vacancies.

According to a youth officer in Gucha sub county, Agnes Okari,  there was a very poor turn out during the recruitment exercise to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) at Tendere.

She noted that most youths believe that white color jobs are more prestigious and their training are not as demanding as the one at the KDF.

"Another misconception is that when working at the military, you have automatically given up your life and are ready die any time soon. Jobless youths must bear in mind that death is the ultimate destiny for all creatures, it’s only a question of when and where," she said.

Ms Okari noted that though the chances of being recruited were low, that was not an excuse for youths to shy away from participating in the recruitment exercise.

She said that white color jobs are also not advertised in hundreds but just few chances are available yet thousands of youths countrywide already have training on all possible professional courses and are waiting for the slightest opportunity to secure the jobs.

The youth officer further said that diversification of the youths’ minds to ensure they try out all possible job opportunities will enable them increase chances of securing a job in our country.

Unemployment is a national crisis and Ms Okari called upon youths in Gucha to be wise and be ready to explore all possible legal ways to earn a living.

Five youths including four men and a lady from Gucha sub county were recruited and are expected to start training immediately the recruitment exercise is completed countrywide.
