Youths in Nakuru county are now demanding the area leadership to account for Sh15 million that was used during the Nakuru Youth Week.

The irate youth claimed that the event did not benefit the youth in the area as claimed by the leaders.

In a interview with a local radio station on Wednesday, Youth advisor to the governor Kimani wa Kimani revealed that bulk of the amount went into advertisement

“We had a live interview with Citizen TV and we carried out advertisements in all the leading papers,” he said.

On Thursday, The Nakuru Youth Bunge President Phillip Ngok, who spearheaded the event insisted that the money was little.

“Depending on how one looks at it Sh8 million can be little. A live broadcast costs Sh2 million per hour. Bringing together 550 youth for two days at a cost of Sh1.6 million, we had to carry out dinner for 500 people. Tents, decoration, truck, a crew of 1500, T-shirts and stages were so costly,” he claimed.

Goerge Machoka, a youth leader, insisted that the money spent unwisely.

“The caravans just moved all over the town with people dancing. How the youth gained from this I am yet to know. The cultural festival was also not a serious one. Even the street bazaar was a disaster as most departments failed to show up to showcase their products,” Machoka said.
