Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago has urged youths to pursue agricultural courses, rather than the usual business courses since agriculture is among the best well-paying self-employment jobs compared to white collar jobs.

“With a small plot and small capital, one can transform his life from a nobody to a multi-millionaire through rearing of poultry, fish farming and planting of fast growing food that will fetch income,” he said.

Speaking in his office on Thursday, Mandago said that his government is in full support of education for all no matter their background, and will fully cater for their fees until they complete their courses.

“My government will use a whooping Sh60 million to pay for the 600 students from the first day till the last day when they will graduate, each ward will have 20 beneficiaries with each student receiving Sh10,000,” he said.

He added that the students have already joined Rift valley Technical Training Institute, and are pursuing their certificate and Diploma Courses, and after their completion, the county will offer them employment.

“Due to the increased number of bright and needy students, my government will sponsor more students through increment in the bursary from the previous Sh3-5 million per ward in this financial year to pursue Diploma, certificate and technical courses in our technical colleges and universities, and I urge parents to take their children to school to benefit from these bursaries,” he reiterated.
