Bogichora Ward representative Beuttah Omanga has cautioned the youth against engaging in unprotected sex as they risk contracting HIV and sexually transmitted infections.

Omanga said abstinence was the surest prevention measure against the virus and unwanted pregnancies.

He was speaking during the ongoing campaign against HIV/Aids in Nyamira town on Friday.

The MCA emphasised that unprotected sex contributes to STIs such as Hepatitis B, herpes, gonorrhoea and syphilis.

He noted that unprotected sex among high school and university students could lead to unwanted pregnancies, forcing them to become mothers or fathers before the right time.

"It is important for our youths to abstain from unprotected sex t avoid contracting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections," Omanga said.

He advised youths to follow church teachings on abstinence, noting that it was a sure way of avoiding the diseases - better than using condoms.

He said a healthy county will be more productive compared to a sick county, adding that they will not stop the campaign until all youths are educated on precautions to take.
