Young people in Kiambu County have been urged to make use of government funds set aside for them to start up businesses that will empower them economically.
Speaking during a youth forum in Kiambu town on Wednesday, Kiambu Sub-County youth officer Charity Githinji, advised the youth to utilise their potential and shun drug abuse that has robbed many young people from central Kenya of their abilities.
She also called upon the youth to form groups where they can brainstorm on ideas that will help them engage in income generating activities that will uplift their financial status and keep them away from crime and drugs.
She pointed out that the government is always ready to partner with young people to help them with finances and the technical support needed to start and sustain businesses and urged them to utilise such opportunities.
She challenged the youth to utilise youth empowerment funds given by the government to carry out productive activities in agriculture, art and other small and medium enterprises.
Githinji also appealed to the youth to join hands in the fight against drug abuse and alcoholism which continues to shutter the future of the young people.
