Residents of Zambezi, Kikuyu Sub-County have been warned against vandalising security lights as it is a serious crime and encourages criminal activities in the area.

This comes after a security light in the area was vandalised by unknown people and police suspect those who did that intend to conduct criminal activities in the area.

This is the second time the lights have been vandalised after a similar incident occurred in February.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday, the Kikuyu police boss Mutune Maweu said they received reports from the area chief stating the lights had been vandalised for the second time this year. He added that the act was itself a serious crime as it is illegal to destroy government property.

The lights are of great importance and have helped in curbing insecurity in different areas of the region. Those who will be arrested doing so will face charges of destroying government property as well as charges of working with criminals or being the criminals who vandalise the lights in order to perform their illegal acts," said Maweu.

The OCPD said it was the duty of all residents to maintain government property.  He added that residents should also be the government's eye and ensure government property is not damaged by other people.

"All residents should protect government property and report any cases of vandalism to the police for action to be taken against the culprits," said Maweu.
