60 disabled people were on Friday morning given free wheelchairs in Kibera. The occasion was organised by the Kenya Re Organisation and the Association for the Physically Disabled in Kenya (APDK) in collaboration with the nation media group.

The chairman of board of directors in Kenya Re Mr. David Kimenyi stated that the beneficiaries of the wheel chairs will also be given financial assistance by APDK.

He however appealed to other organisations to also offer skills and knowledge to the disabled which would enable them to fend for themselves.

"Our brothers and sisters are equally important; Kenyans should therefore be compassionate with regards to how they treat them. For example, it is very bad to see a disabled person queuing on a long line yet he or she can be considered a special case and left to be attended to first," he said.
