Bright students from poor background in Gatundu North sub county have been challenged to look for sponsorship from government institutions to continue with their education.

Kamwangi Kenya Commercial Bank manager Andrew Mureithi said that parents and guardians should take the initiative to approach sponsors from financial institutions and constituency development fund so that they can achieve their academic dreams.

"Previously, some bright students failed to report to schools of their choice especially when they were admitted to high ranking institutions only to end up dropping out or joining day secondary schools and finally performing poorly," he said.

Mureithi expressed concern over the low educational transition rates from primary to secondary school in Gatundu North region revealing that only 7 students from the area will benefit from KCB foundation.

He attributed this to lack of commitment by parents who made little or no effort to ensure that their children joined high school and later proceeded to higher institutions of learning like universities and colleges.

"I encourage candidates who did not perform well to join youth polytechnics to acquire life skills which will enable them get jobs or be self employed," he said.

"Education curriculum at the youth polytechnic has been modified such that any hardworking student can start with certificate, upgrade to diploma then all the way to degree level," he noted further.

He was speaking on Monday morning at Kamwangi social hall during a meeting with education stakeholders within the sub county and parents of KCB foundation applicants.
