Prisoners who have served their time fully and reformed should be allowed to integrate freely with society, a prisons officer has said.

Nakuru Women GK Prison officer in-charge Rosemary Njenga advised residents to embrace ex-prisoners adding that their input was greatly needed for the advancement of society.

Speaking on Friday, Njenga added that there is need to accept such members back into the social fold, reiterating that some leave prisons with various skills that could help them starting earning income and society should accept them fully and assists them turn over a new leaf.

"I urge the society to learn to accept back our sons and daughters or even mothers who were once imprisoned but have completed their terms and reformed. Some of them leave prison fully equipped with various vocational skills that can help them start life on a fresh angle but that can only be realised if society embraces them," she said.

The officer added that the prison would continue to offer various programmes that would help prisoners acquire various skills and expertise to use once they are freed.
