Following revelations that a section of bar operators have been duped by fake licensing officers in parts of Nakuru County, the board mandated to deal with alcoholic drinks sale and licences has called on the police to arrest the culprits.

Zack Njeru, chairman, Nakuru Town East Sub-county Liquor Licensing Board, accused the police department of providing escort services to anybody without confirming their identities.

In a news briefing at the county headquarters on Tuesday, Njeru regretted the new development, but stressed the fact that the board comprises professionals out to serve diligently as per Chapter 6 of the Constitution.

"All of us are aware of the leadership and integrity clause of the Constitution and would not engage in extortion and soliciting bribes. This is being perpetuated by fake individuals out to tarnish our name and the good work we are doing as a board; their days are numbered," he stated.

Mr Njeru asked the operators to be patient as they launch investigations into the claims of a group of individuals who are issuing fake licences purporting to be members of the board.

This comes after Nakuru bar owners association on Monday threatened to demonstrate accusing a section of the board members of soliciting bribes and threatening them.

The most affected areas are Maili Tisa, Dundori, Kwa Rhonda, Industrial area, Rongai, Molo town and Naivasha.
