An alert has been raised following increased cases of human-wildlife conflict in Naivasha and its environs.
Environmentalist, Michael Ouma, said that if proper measures are not put in place then the situation could lead to a bigger crisis. Speaking to reporters in Naivasha today, Ouma decried the encroachment of the animal habitat by humans adding that it was the genesis of the whole conflict.
"Locals continue to erect structures and cultivate areas that have always been occupied by wild animals forcing the animals to roam about aimlessly into homes," he said.
He pointed this out after an incident, last week when a university student was killed by a buffalo in Kongoro village in Naivasha after he allegedly strayed into the animal's zone.
Ouma further stated that areas such as Longonot, Mai Mahiu, Ebburru and Kikopey among others are those areas hard hit by the crisis. He appealed to The Kenya wildlife service to come up with measures to mitigate the situation before it could degenerate into a major crisis.
