Approximately 100 people who had their hands amputated received free artificial arms from the Nairobi Utumishi Rotary Club in an exercise organised by the organisation in Nakuru on Wednesday ahead of the World Disability Day on Thursday.
According to the coordinator in charge of the program countywide Dr. Mussadiq Mir, the exercise was part of a continuous national program which was aimed at providing medical services to the poor who lack the capacity to acquire them. He also called upon such victims to turn up in large numbers to receive the free services.
"We have come together to provide several services to the disabled in the society. We have been able to provide free treatment for various ailments, free medical essentials as well as advice on preventive health. In addition to these, we have also provided at least 100 amputees with free artificial arms to help them operate more efficiently," Dr. Mussadiq explained.
The program coordinator also pointed out that the program had been made successful with the support of well-wishers through the Aga Khan University in Nairobi, the Scopus Hadassah International (SHI) among other several medical organisations.
