Politics featured  during the burial of Mugithi artiste Salim Junior on Tuesday at Subukia centre, with leaders urging the public to register as voters in large numbers.

Led by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, the politicians said it would be difficult for the Jubilee government to retain power if people will not register as voters and also acquire national identification cards.

They also accused Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga’s move who a few days ago proposed that all the Cord affiliated governors remove President Uhuru Kentyatta’s portraits in their offices, and replace them with those of those of Raila Odinga.

While terming the sentiments as equal to treason, the leaders said the governor was being disrespectful to the President being a symbol of national unity.

“Those without identity cards should make sure that they have applied for the same, and also register as voters. We will be going home at 9am come voting day in 2017 after making sure that we have voted for President Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Sabina Chege, Murang’a woman representative.

Also present was Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua. Others present included MPs Kanini Kega (Kieni), David Gikaria (Nakuru Town East) Mary Mbugua (Nakuru woman representative), Nelson Gaichuhie (Subukia).
