Traders at the Weavers Market in Nakuru West have now called for the prosecution of landlords in the area whom they accuse of channeling sewage to the market.
Speaking Friday, the incensed traders said they were fed up with landlords who have failed to heed to their pleas of redirecting the sewer pipes away from the market.
"We are now calling upon the Ministry of Health to rein in these obstinate landlords who continue to direct sewage into our market,"noted Esther Waithera, a grocer.
Her sentiments were echoed by Peris Mongare, who added that legal action against the landlords will help remedy the situation which she said could degenerate into a disaster.
"We are staring at an epidemic if this issue won't be resolved. All we want is for the sewer passing right through the market be redirected so that we can operate in a clean environment. However, the affected landlords have flatly refused to heed to this,"she said.
The market serves the larger Nakuru West area comprising Rhonda, Stima Line, Kaptembwa, Tanners and Weavers estate.
