Young people who used to nurture their talents at the Nakuru Players Theatre have been forced to find an alternative after the theatre was closed down.

The theatre which was established in 1949 has not been functioning for several months now, with its gates remaining closed.

The closure of the theatre is a big blow to the performing artists in Nakuru.

Upcoming actors, poets, spoken word artists, dancers and musicians have been forced to move and seek space elsewhere.

It has emerged that majority of the young people who used to practice there have been given space at the privately owned Talents Secondary School in Mawanga area, Bahati sub county in Nakuru County.

“Acting is my life. I was devastated when conditions at the Nakuru Players Theatre became unfavourable. However, my friends and I are full of gratitude to Lawrence Karani, the proprietor of Talents High School for giving us a place at no fee,” said Harun Mathenge, a member of an acting troupe.

The closure of the theatre also meant closure of the Members Bar, leaving the place in a desolate state.
