A Nakuru Town West parliamentary aspirant has challenged bloggers and youth active on social media to take leaders to task without bias no matter their relationship with the leaders.
The aspirant, Victor Ngatia was speaking during a discussion of social media practitioners organized by Maskani 254 at the Nakuru Players Theatre. Ngatia also talked about the leadership challenges that have faced the residents of Nakuru.
“In Nakuru we have had the misfortune of electing almost illiterate leaders for a long time. These leaders have put into us the mentality that a leader in Nakuru has to be a ruffian and must dish money to be reelected,” Ngatia said.
He urged the country to elect young people into positions of leadership.
“Am sorry to say that the elderly leaders we have currently across the country cannot fight corruption. Only by bringing in youthful leaders can we deal with the menace of corruption,” said Ngatia.
Another speaker, Patrick Kinyua who is the secretary of the Nakuru Analysts group lamented the way the current crop of leaders have compromised journalists and other people who were vocal against bad governance.
“Vocal critics in both mainstream and social media have been compromised either through inducements or threats,” said Kinyua giving the example of Elijah Kinyanjui who was just recently arrested for his outspokenness on social media.
