Former Kisii Central ward contestants and upcoming aspirants have teamed up strongly against area MCA Wilfred Yoge.
The team, with slogan ‘Monyenye must go’ has vowed to use all means to defeat him in the next election.
Led by former mayor Patrick Siro and councillor Kepha Kebabe, famously known as Mrefu, they have accused the MCA of nepotism and corruption.
They were speaking on Tuesday in Kisii town.
Councillor Siro has since demanded audit to be done on expenditure of funds in the sub-sequent financial years beginning 2013.
“Audit should be done from 2013. The MCA has been misappropriating public funds. No important projects have been done since he was elected. He portrays negative behavior by threatening aspirants. Is this a good leader really?” said Siro.
Siro said they will support popular candidate in the coming elections in order to change Kisii Central leadership.
“I ask Kisii Central residents to register as voters in good numbers. In the last election, the ward had 18,000 registered voters and Monyenye won with only 4,000 votes. This means if we marshal well, we will rest him much earlier because he is not popular,” said the aspiring MCA.
Siro has asked the Kisii County commissioner, Chege Mwangi, to take a step against errant chiefs and their assistants who get involved in politics in the ward. He alleged Monyenye use a section of them to rally for him through his ghost projects.
Mrefu, who is also standing for Kisii Central MCA, accused Monyenye of skewed distribution of bursary funds and asked the electorate to vote him out in the next election.
He has threatened to take legal action against Monyenye over misappropriation of ward resources.
“The county has been allocating bursary funds to various wards since the year 2013. The millions meant for the orphans, widows and the poor are being spent in the wrong purpose. Monyenye only awards his relatives and friends leaving deserving cases. He has never produced a list of beneficiaries from the bursaries. Its means there has been no transparency,” alleged Mrefu.
He added: “He masquerades in those people he finds working in the county government from his ward. He has only employed his close allies. So far, employment of people in the county from our ward does not reflect the face of the ward.”
Councillor Mrefu alleged the MCA sabotages contractors on various projects in the ward by demanding a share of money from the contractors, hence, shoddy work done.
“We have seen shoddy work done on various projects in the ward. There is one contractor whom the MCA demanded Sh3 million out of Sh6 million. The contractor had no option because the MCA threatened to replace him.”
The two politicians accused the MCA of dividing and rule and intimidating other aspirants.
Monyenye took issue with a post on Facebook whereby Boniface Onchagwa, also aspiring MCA for Kisii Central that he wrote.
He (the MCA) reported Onchagwa to the Kisii CID accusing the youthful politician of insulting and threatening him.
The two threw spats to each other in front of the CID officers before they reconciled.
The message posted on January 24, 2016 that Monyenye alleged was threatening his life read: “The cheap propaganda the MCA Kisii central ward is trying to play is long gone. The old man should just retire from politics or if need be contest for gubernatorial seat with his age mates. The MCA seat should be a youth thing.”
It continued: “Its either he retires voluntarily or we retire him by force in 2017. The bombshell I threw him at a Baraza in Nyansancha was just a test; many more are coming up at any platform that we will share. I have 999 secrets remaining.”
The MCA is said to have misunderstood the message whereby he mistaken bombshell to be a bomb blast and 999 secrets remaining to be a killer strategy.
The MCA is also accused of land grabbing whereby Pacificah Mwanko from Nyanchwa in the outskirts of Kisii town, has given him till February 24, 2016 to surrender six title deeds of parcels of lands he has grabbed from her.
Efforts to reach him for a comment hit a snag.
Onchagwa is among the youth who are determined to knock out the incumbent leadership in the coming elections.
"I am in the race and nobody will sabotage me. We, the youth, have decided to change the Kisii Central leadership that has been in one hand for decades now," said the first time runner for the seat.
