An Athi River town based children rescue centre has been praised for exemplary work in its undertakings.
The Athi River sub-county children officer, Faith Kamau said the director of Bondeni Children Rescue Centre deserves appraisal for good work the home is doing alongside her generosity.
Kamau who addressed the press at her office in Athi River town said that was the only charitable children organization in the sub-county which takes children in need any time whenever requested.
"I sincerely laud Bondeni Children Rescue Centre's director, Florence Gitau for her generosity. As a department, we depend on her whenever there are emergencies to rescue children in need," said Kamau.
Kamau said though the home is equally as vulnerable as the children it accommodates given that it does not have reliable donors to depend on for funding among other support, it had never turned down the children department's request to urgently offer accommodation to rescued children.
She said her office was highly depending on the home to shelter children as they attend court cases arguing that the only public rescue centre in the entire Machakos County is located in Machakos town.
Kamau said given that she is the only children officer in the region serving two sub counties, both Athi River and Kathiani, it is expensive and tedious on her part and side of children to move children from the Machakos based public children shelter to Mavoko Law Courts to and from to attend cases regularly.
She disclosed that the home offered to accommodate for a night the 95 children of ages between 2 and 17 who were rescued by security agents from a madrasa class at a residential storey building at KMC estate in Athi River town recently where they were allegedly being radicalised on illicit religious doctrines.
She urged well-wishers to give helping hands to the home in a bid of ensuring its sustainability stating that it had more responsibilities than resources at hand.
