Leaders from Athi River Sub-County have been urged to unite the residents in a bid to ensure peaceful coexistence among themselves.
Addressing the press at his office in Athi River town on Monday, Mavoko assistant county commissioner, David Tegutwa said the leaders, especially politicians were vital as far as the region's peace was concerned.
"I am calling upon leaders of all sorts from the entire Athi River Sub-County to preach peace among members of the public including their followers for the case of politicians," said Tegutwa.
Tegutwa said the leaders should shun discrimination of residents on tribal lines arguing that the region is cosmopolitan hence need to recognize and respect the locals despite their ethnic backgrounds.
He called on the residents to distant themselves from leaders who were fond of spreading unnecessary propaganda on others for personal self vested interest asserting that can polarize members of the public leading to conflicts.
"All leaders should educate members of the public on the importance of living peacefully as brothers and sisters at all terms without discrimination or stereotyping others," Tegutwa said.
Tegutwa called on the clergy to pray for both the region's leadership and its residents to ensure that they remain calm and peaceful at all times.
