Parents from Athi River sub-county have been cautioned against engaging their children in child labor.
Addressing this reporter at her office in Athi River town on Wednesday, the area children officer, Faith Kamau, said the vice was rampant in the region.
"Parents from Athi River sub-county should all know that child labor is illegal, it is paining to see rates at which parents and caretakers engage children in these illicit acts," said Kamau.
Kamau said the levels of such child engagements by the culprits had gone down sometime in the year but have unimaginably shot up lately.
She blamed the increase on laxity among certain leaders within the region's provincial administration structure alongside ignorance among most of the parents.
Kamau said her office had developed a comprehensive strategic development plan it intends to use in a bid of eliminating child labor from the region.
She disclosed that some of the parents send their children or those under their care to go collecting plastic and scrap metal materials for sale to dealers and take money home for domestic basic needs.
Kamau warned that her office would not relent on the war asserting she is, as usual, ready to investigate and handle each case accordingly, in line with the prescribed law for the best interest of the child.
