Chiefs from Athi River sub-county have been ordered to be vigilant in fighting illicit brews in their locations in a bid of completely eliminate them from the region.

The order was issued on Wednesday by the area deputy county commissioner, Kodeck Makori, who said the substance was rapidly gaining its entry back to the sub county.

“I have directed chiefs from Athi River sub-county to continuously fight alcohol and hard drugs such as bang for we do not want people to get back to illicit liquor and drugs businesses,” said Makori.

Makori warned that those who will be found trading in such businesses will face full wrath of the law asserting, “His office will not relent in the war against drugs.”

He said that since there are credible and effective administrative structures in the sub county, chiefs should create good rapport with the residents so as to get tip offs on who and where the illegal businesses were taking place.

"I will personally go and monitor the crackdown exercise as from next week to check if the chiefs are doing the work as expected, those who will be found sleeping on the job will be punished accordingly," said Makori.

Makori, however, cautioned the administrators against effecting arrests without police officers stating that it was dangerous since some of the culprits were criminals.

He said chiefs should request for administration police offers either from his office or those of assistant county commissioners whenever they wanted to go effect arrests.
