Barely three days after schools opened for first term, pupil attendance at Olympic Primary School has doubled compared to the first day.

The number is expected to rise further by Friday, according to head teacher Christopher Ochieng.

The school which witnessed an uncharacteristic low enrollment when this writer visited on Monday, now has more students.

The usually congested classes are almost back to their full capacity.

A visit to one of the classes which had one of the worst attendance on Monday, showed a different picture.

A majority of the pupils were back to their usual business.

Many teachers are very optimistic that the numbers will be full by next week.

Mrs Beatrice Akinyi, a science teacher opined that pupils were still in celebratory mood and hoped that most of them will report back on next Monday.

As Mr Ochieng confirmed, the attendance was now standing at over 2,500 pupils out of the over 3,500 the school accommodates.

"Nearly 70 per cent of the pupils are now in school. We expect the remaining percentage to be back by next week," he said.

He further added that the teachers are in the meantime busy updating their notes and schemes of work in readiness for next week when learning is supposed to become serious.

He expects the school to continue performing well following a good show in last year's KCPE exams that saw it post outstanding results.
