People living along Arthi River have been ordered to vacate their homes for fear the river could burst its banks and over flood.

Residents especially those from Ndiuni and Katangi divisions were told to vacate their homes to avert loss of lives as a result of flooding.

Mwala OCPD Henry Rukaria said the chances of Arthi River over flooding were high, calling on people living along the river banks to vacate.

Rukaria said residents who will not abide by the order will be evicted forcefully.

He said failure to move would expose the residents to dangers including landslides.

Arthi River is among the rivers in Machakos expected to flood following the heavy rains being experienced in the county.
