Young drivers in Bahati are full of praises to their area member of parliament Kimani Ngunjiri through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty upon completion of their driving course.
Speaking on Saturday at the High View driving school while receiving a briefing on the issuance procedure slated for Monday, a majority of the beneficiaries expressed their confidence in Ngunjiri saying that he had so far proved his commitment to ensuring that youth remain part of his development agenda.
They said that their long suffering in the hands of police officers for lacking the important document would soon be a thing of the past, thanking the initiative.
“Not that we don’t know that it’s against the law to drive without a licence, a majority of us do it so as to make ends meet; instead of engaging in crime, we better be involved in the bodaboda business,” noted Joshua Kinyanjui, chairperson Bahati boda Sacco.
He further noted that those who were not considered in the first phase would be prioritised during the second and third phases starting February 2016 but encouraged them to join Saccos for convenience purposes.
“Being a registered member of an official Sacco makes things easier because that shows we are dealing with an organised group, one with a vision as compared to dealing individuals where one is out to fulfil personal interests,” he said.
The issuance of interim licences will be officiated by local leaders and other county representatives with the beneficiaries being expected to produce a national identity card for proper identification.
In the programme, there were a total of 750 beneficiaries of whom 200 settled for the driving courses while others went for carpentry, masonry, computer packages and other life skill courses.
