Bar owners in Nyamira have been cautioned against selling illicit brews during the festive season.

County Commissioner Josephine Onunga Saturday said the sale of illicit alcohol in the region is illegal, and warned of dire consequences should one be found selling the liquor.

"No single bar will be allowed to operate without a valid license. All alcohol joints will be required to comply with rules and regulations governing the sale of alcohol or they risk closure," Onunga warned.

She said her office has since the beginning of the month seized over 200 litters of illicit brew.

Onunga applauded the work by local administrators to fight alcoholism in Nyamira, further calling on the residents to provide information that could lead to the arrest of criminals.

She said more police officers will be deployed in the region to maintain law and order.

“I am really happy with the cooperation between the provincial administrators and the police to weed out illicit brews," she said.
