Thika Sub-County administrator Rose Kimani has said students frequenting bars during this festive season will be arrested and prosecuted.

Speaking on Monday in Gatuanyaga during the launch of the bar vetting process which is expected to run for the two weeks, Kimani said bar operators who allow students in their premises risked having their licenses cancelled.

She instructed chiefs and their assistant to be vigilant when cracking down on illicit brew which she said was now being brewed and consumed secretly in some areas.

Kimani said the county government of Kiambu was serious in controlling the vice and any administration officer who will be found abetting brewers will lose their job.

The administrator said the county and national government officials were working as a team to enhance services to residents in the sub-county.

She called on the members of the public to participate in the bar vetting process to avoid complaints after the bars are approved by the liquor licensing board.

Kimani said they would not offer licences to bars without the public’s approval because the vetting process is aimed at benefiting the residents.
