Bokeira ward residents in Nyamira County have been asked to be patient in the construction of ward roads due to the heavy rains rocking various parts of Gusii region.
Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday in her ward, Member of County Assembly Callen Atuya said construction of the roads in the area would be a wastage of resources due to the ongoing El Nino.
"I know there are some roads in our ward that are half-way complete. However, we have stalled in construction of the roads till El Nino rains subsidizes. Continuing the work on the roads would be a wastage of resources because of the heavy down pours."
Ms Atuya called on the police to ensure sufficient security to the residents.
She challenged the youths to form groups that will enable them, get funds and start meaningful projects to avoid engaging in illegal activities.
"I ask youths to for and register groups so that we can fund them and initiate various projects that will enable them generate income and be self-reliant. Through this youths will not engage in criminal activities," said the MCA.
Meanwhile, Esise residents have decried over destruction of their properties and said their lives are in danger as a result of the ongoing El Nino. They have asked the county government to support them.
"We ask our county government to intervene and salvage the situation because we have lost our properties including houses. We would be the next being swiped away by floods. We have heard that there is El Nino funds used to mitigate effects of El Nino," appealed Joseph Mauti, a cobbler at Kebirigo town.
