Molo boda bodas have agreed to work with the police in ensuring that any member found guilty of flouting traffic rules faces the full force of the law.
By doing this, they believe, sanity, law and order will be brought back to the business which is arguably the largest employer of youths in the country.
Speaking on the sidelines of the official unveiling of the Elburgon Boda boda Sacco on Thursday and attended by senior county officials including Governor Kinuthia Mbugua and his deputy Joseph Rutto, the operators vowed not to be cowed in their attempts of ensuring the sector became one of the best.
Led by their chairperson Mwangi Ngoima, they not only lauded Mbugua's efforts of supporting them, but also called on other leaders to join hands in helping the governor complete what he had started.
"We could be doing much better only if our leaders could walk their talk. Some only come to us during campaigns but this time, let them be warned; we are not going to be easily swayed," he said.
Mwangi also noted area MP Jacob Macharia's efforts saying almost all of them have valid driving licences today, thanks to his contribution.
"The sector has over the years been associated with bad things but as from today, this is a new dawn where actions will speak. Our reckless and non-compliant members will have a rough time because we will not wait for the police to come for them, we will take them there," he said.
The sacco has come out with a compliant wing that will mount crackdowns on a weekly basis to ensure that bogus operators are flushed out of Nakuru roads.
"Being the pioneers of this business in Molo, we know all the tricks and nothing will go unnoticed. All we want is to ensure that we nurture a law abiding generation that will ensure that accidents are on the minimal," noted Zachary Ndichu, leader of the compliance team.
Drunk driving, recklessness, overloading, speeding, driving without reflector jackets or helmet; just to mention but a few are among the most ignored traffic rules by boda boda operators.
